Bryce Raleigh Jensen was born on November 18, 1914 in Roy, Utah to Joseph William and Iola (not Lola) Thompson Jensen. Bryce died in his South Ogden home on Saturday, June 4. Through a combination of his incredible determination and a variety of support, Bryce lived in his own home until his passing. He didnt know how not to give it his best until his body gave out during the final few days of his life. Bryce attended Weber High School and Weber College before going to Reno, Nevada to live with his sister Grace and attend the University of Nevada Reno. In 1936, Bryce returned home to Roy to help his Father with the family farm. On a blind date in the summer of 1941, Bryce met his dear wife, Bobbie. They announced their engagement to be married on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941. Bryce and Barbara Naisbitt Shaw were married on January 8, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. Bryce served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for a little over three years during World War II training young recruits in Miami Beach and as a cryptographer in several locations. He refers to his time on the island of Guam as his paid vacation. Bryce ran the family orchard in Roy with his aging Father until he was commissioned by President Kennedy as the Postmaster for the Roy post office. He retired at age 66 after 20 years as Postmaster, and he and Bobbie spent many wonderful years in retirement. One of their favorite pastimes was going on picnics in the mountains together to enjoy the beauty of nature. Bobbie passed away in September 2000. Bryce was proud of his roots in the Democratic Party. He sang at political rallies as a young man, and spoke often of his Father, J.W. Jensen who was Speaker in the Utah House in the 1937 session. Bryces involvement in community and public service was important to him. When asked what advice he would give on living a good life, Bryce said he felt it was important to do something for someone else to try to make a contribution. One of Bryces greatest achievements when he was on the Weber County School Board was hiring T.H. Ted Bell as superintendent of schools for Weber County who later went on to be U.S. Secretary of Education from 1981-1985. In addition, Bryce served on the Weber County Planning Commission, president of the Roy Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Ogden Golf and Country Club. As an avid golfer for many decades, Bryce enjoyed time with friends and family at the Ogden Golf and Country Club, and his last hole one (his 8th) was at age 96. He enjoyed being called ace for the rest of the summer. Bryce always wanted to arrange for family get-togethers and often lamented that many of his grandchildren were so far away. Bryce is survived by his son Chuck (Lisa) Jensen, his daughter Jacque Jensen (Scott Nielsen), 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie and granddaughter, Carlie Jensen. The family would like to thank everyone who supported Bryce in his journey and provided end of life care: Bruce was Fathers companion and driver for many years; Judy was his afternoon caregiver; and the Caregivers Support Network team were there for Bryce when he needed them. Everyone treated Father as though he was their own Father or elderly relative. We are so grateful for your loving care.
