Carl Smith Haycock's Obituary

Carl Smith Haycock, cherished husband, father, brother, and treasured friend passed away on May 10, 2018. He was born on March 19, 1950, the third child of four, to Ira Hatch and LaRue Smith Haycock in San Mateo, California. His childhood and youth were spent in San Mateo; Denver, Colorado; and Stratford, New Jersey. On December 7, 1974 he married Donna Lee Francis, joining two loving people into a devoted companionship for years ahead. Their union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Kelsey Lee, who has been the light of Carls life. The three of them have shared a priceless family bond. As a geology graduate from Weber State University, Carl worked in the Southern Utah Uranium Mines until production was terminated. Afterwards he pursued employment in sales, finishing up his career working for Headwater Stone Division selling decorative rock to architectural and construction firms. He retired in 2014 and devoted the remainder of his life to his favorite past times. Always one for keeping busy and improving himself, he reveled in a challenging game of golf, a stimulating ski adventure, or an engaging fishing trip. He took great personal pride in his backyard, always changing and arranging to perfection. With retirement came a new endeavor beekeeping. Throughout his life he demonstrated thoughtfulness, concern for others, and willingness to help those around him. He has shown a special consideration for his friends and neighbors, and quietly supported many. Much of his energy was focused into being the "greatest Dad ever" for Kelsey. He has traveled many miles to watch or aid or support her. He truly loved watching her play golf! He has left a legacy of love and devotion to family. He demonstrated that tender but powerful quality throughout his life from early childhood to his last days. What a remarkable memory! Carl is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Kelsey; sisters, Lynne (Kent) Perkins and Anne (Joe) Stubbs; and his sister-in-law, Debby Haycock. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hatch and LaRue; brother, Douglas Haycock; and infant son.
