Carol Jean Jeppesen Lucas passed away on October 24, 2026, from injuries sustained as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born December 31, 1956, on a very cold night in Ogden, Utah, to Preston Robert Jeppesen and Elsie Jean Knauss.
Carol grew up in Washington Terrace and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1975. She married Tom McCafferty in 1976 and later divorced. They had one daughter. Carol married Mark K. Lucas on June 10, 1989, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized June 10, 1991, in the Salt Lake Temple. They brought a blended family together.
Carol was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings throughout her life.
She loved going out to eat and keeping up with family and friends and what was going on in their lives. She loved cooking for others, especially those who were having difficulties, and said that providing food for them was the only way she was going to get into heaven.
Carol and Mark loved the great outdoors. Some of their fondest memories were camping at and visiting Tony’s Grove, Sunrise Campground, Lava Hot Springs, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Jackson Hole, and Yellowstone National Park. They had a special love for Alaska and celebrated many important anniversaries there. Carol especially enjoyed babysitting the grandchildren and spending time with her many nieces and nephews.
Carol is now reunited with her husband Mark, who passed away November 14, 2023, and her sister Kathy, who passed away on July 14, 2026. Carol missed both Mark and Kathy terribly. She is survived by her daughter, Mariah McCafferty (Wade Hering); her grandsons Brenden C. Morris, and Kendall L. Hering; along with Jared A. Lucas (Nicole), Amy M. Lucas, Nathan M. Lucas, Melissa A. Lemieux, Britney E. Lucas-Lautaimi (Sale), Abby L. Lucas (Tomas), and Stephen C. Lucas (Star); 29 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Robert P. Jeppesen (Susan); brother-in-law Fred R. King; many nieces and nephews; along with Justin Morris (Christina); and her bonus grandchildren, Briley and Tegan Morris.
Services will be held Friday, November 6, at 11:00 AM, at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah 84403. Visitation will take place starting at 10:00 AM at the same location.
