IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carole
Bell
January 14, 1936 – December 8, 2025
Born January 14th, 1936, eldest of four children to Charles L. Johnston and Erma Donnellon Johnston. Carole attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High in 1953. Carole also attended Weber State College.
She married Edwin East in May of 1954. They later embraced the arrival of two beautiful daughters who completed the family. Edwin and Carole subsequently divorced in May 1974.
She married Steven H. Bell in October 1975, and later divorced in May 1982.
Carole began working for the Federal Government at Utah Defense Depot in 1965. There she discovered computers, and a thirty-year love affair was born. She went from the Defense Depot to the Forest Service, then Hill Air Force Base, with her final stop at the IRS.
It was during this period that she became painfully aware of the discrepancies in the opportunities afforded to men as opposed to women. So began her more than twenty-year crusade against this particular type of discrimination. The quest ended unfulfilled with her passing on December 8th, 2025.
Carole is survived by one brother, Richard D. Johnston, (Staci); step-sister, Jackee Price; her daughter Laurie East Taylor, (Ivan C. Taylor- possibly the world's best son-in-law and a hellacious pinochle player); her daughter Kerrie East Petsche, (Daniel); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Dr. Lynn D. Johnston; her sister Barbara K. Lowe; grandson, Samuel Matthew Call; great-great grandson Oliver Allen Rose, and both ex-husbands.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the kind and gentle care Carole received during her final years. Her Symbii Hospice team-Jen, Andrea, Mindy, Michelle, Shanna, and Nichole-as well as her Visiting Angels-Ariadna, Sherilyn, and Amber who provided exceptional support.
