Catherine Rose Harline passed away on April 13th just shy of her 94th birthday. Catherine Rose Candleana was born on May 6th, 1923 in Bath, New York to Joseph and Edna (Kelly) Candleana. Growing up in Bath with her two brothers Paul and Francis, she was popular in high school and involved in school activities as a cheerleader and a cast member in school plays. She was awarded a scholarship to Ithaca College to study theater but changed direction to nursing. She graduated from the Kings County nursing program and worked as a registered nurse at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY where she met her future husband Wesley G. Harline who was doing his residency there. They married on October 28th, 1946. They were later divorced. Candy as she was known to her friends, was independent and stubborn to the end. She was known to express her opinions but always tempered with her hallmark sense of humor and wit. She always had great stories to tell. A long time friend remarked after she learned of her death, Everyone should have a Candy in their life, she was always so positive and full of fun and always saw the bright side of everything. Even when her professional life as a nurse was over, she was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone in need. WWII cut short her desire for higher education and because of that she had always wanted a college education. She enrolled in Weber College as it was known then and pursued an Associates Degree with classmates half her age. She was an avid reader until macular degeneration impaired her sight. In later years due to her ailments she spent most of her time puttering around in her garden with her roses. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her two brothers and her son Eric (Rick) Joseph Harline. She is survived by her son Wesley (Lee) Grant Harline Jr. (Michelle), Toni Harline (Greg Duffy) and Cathy Harline, her grandchildren Erica Harline Van Aarle (Patrick), Catherine (Katie) Duffy and Haley Duffy, Tyler Rasmussen (Lindsay) and Ryan Rasmussen (Ashlee) along with eight great grandchildren, and Loki, the Golden Retriever. In the final years of her life her mind remained as sharp as it always was. Physically however the years took its toll. When asked how she was doing she would always respond; I cant see, I cant hear and I cant walk, other than that Im doing just fine Please join the family for a Celebration of her life at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 -36th St., Ogden, UT on Thursday, April 20th, 2017 between the hours of 6 to 8 PM.
