Obituary

Celeste Elizabeth Schmitt, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, returned home to our loving Heavenly Father on August 14, 2024, in Osceola, Missouri, at the age of 56. She was born on September 29, 1967, in Ogden, Utah, to John B. Schmitt Sr. and Ada L. Johnson. Celeste married Patrick Haynes on Sep. 12, 1998. Although they later divorced, they remained friends. Celeste lived a life full of creativity, love, service, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Celeste was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she loved the Gospel and attended Seminary while she attended Roy Junior High School followed by Roy High School. Celeste developed a love of learning as she grew up and continued to learn throughout her life.

Celeste's professional life included a summer as a Grounds Keeper at Hill Air Force Base followed by a career working at the Internal Revenue Service where she worked in Extracting, Deposit, and Accounts Management. She was always willing to coach fellow team members and had the ability to explain technical procedures in an easy-to-understand manner. She retired from IRS at the end of March after 30 years. Celeste also dedicated countless hours volunteering at Rocky Point Haunted House in Ogden. Whether she was acting, assigning costumes, or contributing to set decoration, Celeste took pride in her work and really enjoyed scaring the patrons.

Celeste had a wide range of interests as well as talents. She enjoyed reading, photography, puzzles, Legos, and music and movies from around the world. Celeste had a talent for writing, painting ceramics, and floral arrangements. She was always willing to use her talents to bring joy to others.

Although Celeste had struggled with her health these last few years and was in constant pain from her back, she found immense joy in life. Celeste had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She loved animals and had infinite patience when she was working to gain the trust of a scared animal.

Celeste is survived by her brother John B Schmitt Jr. and her sisters Anna M. (Travis) Taylor and Tina L. (Jeff) Day, and her nieces and nephews Chandra, Shallisa, and Mathew Day, and Preston Christensen.

She was preceded in death by her parents John B. Schmitt Sr. and Ada L. Johnson, and her sister-in-law Andrea Schmitt.

The family would like to thank the countless people who have reached out with their love and support. The family would also like to thank all the medical professionals who took such great care of Celeste over the years.
