IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlann Rice
Mead
October 4, 1929 – January 30, 2024
OGDEN - Charlann Rice Mead entered this world on October 4, 1929 in Plain City, Utah, born into a loving family of what would become 12 children for Frederick Princess Rice and Sarah Lettie Tracy Rice. She passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving children who turned her over to the care of Heavenly Father, our own dad, her twin children, her parents, her siblings and others who were excitedly waiting for her arrival.
Mom was raised in a loving home, surrounded by the chaos of many children, hard work, and much love. She learned much there, especially faith in a loving Father in Heaven, a knowledge of His goodness, and a testimony of God, His Son Jesus Christ, and of the gospel of Christ. She was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She married the love of her life, Maurice Willard Mead on September 3, 1948 in Ogden, Utah and sealed that love and family forever on July 10, 1979 in the Ogden Utah Temple. She worked for a few years after their marriage until her own children began arriving. After that she stayed home and dedicated herself to becoming the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and grandma-great ever.
Charlann was absolutely dedicated to her family. She sewed clothes, dance costumes, and much more. She handmade quilts for every child, grandchild, and most of the great-grandchildren, spending countless hours in picking out fabric and tying them using frames dad made for her. He warned her, "Be careful what you start!", and the hours she spent on this labor of love truly can't be counted. She taught us great faith, how to work, how to serve, and how to love. Oh how she taught us to love! Her love, faith, and never giving up helped to bring dad into the Church after 26 years of marriage.
Mom loved dad with all her heart. She taught us how to love and be dedicated to our own spouses as we watched her day by day, getting up every morning early to see he'd go out the door well fed and with a good lunch. She took care of him in every way. He loved her equally. They would dance around the living room on their anniversary in their later years to the tune of, "Can I Have This Dance" (for the rest of my life). When dad retired they became inseparable, going to almost every grandchild's events from school to birthdays to sports, traveling on weekend getaways, and going on longer trips they'd always dreamed of.
Mom was a pillar of faith in our family. She loved to sing and she loved singing the church hymns as much as she loved attending church. Many times we would sing along with her in the living room from the church hymn book, which she didn't need because she knew all the songs by heart. One of the ways she shared her testimony of Christ with us was through song. She polished five little pairs of shoes every Saturday night when we were very young and took us to church on Sunday, usually alone until dad "signed up", as she liked to say. She taught us how to pray and how to serve. She was a primary teacher, a den mother, a Relief Society president, a temple volunteer, and served God and her beloved ward in countless ways. Her faith will influence her posterity and many others until the end of time.
Mom is survived by her children, Jeff (Jan) Mead, Greg (Karen) Mead, Gary (Lorraine) Mead, Lance Mead, Leisa (Bob) Bodily, 31 grand-children, 77 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, ten brothers and sisters, daughter-in-law Lorraine Chambers Mead, and twin children Kerry Maurice and Deborah Ann Mead.
