Charles Douglas Wells's Obituary

Charles Douglas (Doug) Wells Charles Douglas Wells passed away on May 12, 2014 in Ogden, Utah. Doug was born January 1, 1924 in Victor, Utah (now a ghost town) to Samuel M. and Minnie Zoe Lisonbee Wells. Doug was raised in Victor and Hanksville, Utah where he learned early to ride the desert on horseback and to chase wild horses, catching his first one at age 10. Doug was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. After World War II, he worked in Nevada for 4 years, at Hill Air Force Base for 2 years, at the Ogden Stockyards for 2 years, and then ranching and driving truck for Amcor Pipe Company for 20 years. On June 21, 1945, he married Diana Clark in San Jose, California; they were later divorced. On February 14, 1964, he married Opal (Peggy) Hill in South Weber, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Doug was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had great faith in the Gospel. Doug was a rancher and raised cattle and trained horses at his D-W Ranches in South Weber and Torrey, Utah, and started the South Weber Junior Posse in 1959. He wrote cowboy poetry, loved the guitar and studied western history. Doug enjoyed spring round ups in the desert and any rodeo, including watching his son in high school and supporting his grandchildren in youth rodeos. He was particularly fond of his horse Junior and proud of the many ribbons won by his granddaughter Sarah. Doug was a true cowboy and always enjoyed camping and ranching with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, his very special step-daughter, Patricia Nielson, and step-son, Rolan Hill. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son Paul (Terri) Wells, step-children Katy Athay, Ramona Lower and Joseph Hill, son-in-law Arthur (Ruth) Nielson, daughter-in-law Dorothy Hill, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and by his brother Jerry Wells of Cedar City, Utah.
