IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cheryl
Thomas
March 6, 1951 – June 16, 2025
Cheryl Lee Thomas was born on March 6, 1951, to Darlene May Bushnell Moulding and Donald Lee Moulding.
She grew up in Roy, Utah, where she spent much of her life enjoying quiet walks and time to herself. Cheryl could often be found strolling through town, visiting her brother and sister-in-law, running errands, or simply enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the city. She worked at the local retirement home for many years, walking to work each day through the summer heat and frigid winters. Her coworkers spoke highly of her dedication and reliability. Cheryl was someone you could always count on.
Paydays were a special highlight. Cheryl would head "uptown" to the shops in Roy, treating herself to pretty dresses and shoes from Mode-O-Day. She'd stop by Roy Hamilton Drugstore and Woolworth's for essentials, often picking up little surprises, usually candy for her siblings. Her generous heart always made room for others. After a stop at the beauty salon to get her hair done, she would carry her bundles home, tired but happy after another joyful payday.
Her bond with her brother Stephen was especially strong. He had a way of making her laugh until she turned bright red, and their lighthearted connection brought joy to everyone around them.
Cheryl was a talented and creative soul. She loved needlework and spent hours making Christmas stockings for her family, each stitched with care. She enjoyed sewing and was rarely without a project in hand.
She was a devoted Elvis Presley fan. She cheered on the Utah Jazz, especially during the John Stockton, Karl Malone, and Jeff Hornacek years. She loved "Little House on the Prairie," her soaps, and classic John Wayne movies. Daisies were her favorite flower, and she deeply loved animals, many of whom became part of the family over the years. During the early years of their marriage, Wayne and Cheryl spent time fishing and could be found along various riverbanks catching catfish.
On February 27, 1985, Cheryl married Wayne Thomas. During their cake cutting, she playfully smashed cake on his nose, a perfect example of her mischievous humor. Together, they raised three cherished daughters.
Her daughter Michelle shares some of her most treasured memories:
Some of my earliest and most cherished memories of my mom are filled with laughter and love. One of my favorites was when she'd play 'typewriter' on our bellies, pretending to type letters while saying, 'Dear so-and-so, I love Michelle!' We'd laugh uncontrollably as she tickled us.
We didn't always have a thermometer when we were sick, so my mom would gently kiss our foreheads to check for a fever. Looking back, I think it was less about checking and more about comforting us.
I'll never forget the book bag she made for me in kindergarten. It was shaped like a turtle, and I was the only kid in class with one like it. I felt so special.
She walked us to the bus stop daily, no matter the weather-rain, shine, or snow. One day, in my childlike innocence, I asked, 'Momma, do you wait here all day for us?' She laughed and said, 'No, silly.' She continued walking us until we got 'too old' and asked her not to. I'll never forget the look on her face when I told her. It wasn't just sadness; it was the quiet realization that her little girls were growing up.
She was an incredible storyteller. I was always captivated listening to her talk about her childhood; her words brought it all to life.
She was crafty beyond belief. One Easter, she made baskets out of balloons and papier mâché. Who does that? My mom did.
No matter what, dinner was always ready when my dad got home. It might not have been fancy, but it was warm and made with love.
Most of all, I loved making her laugh. I can still hear that laugh. It is one of the most beautiful sounds and lives on in my heart.
I love you, Momma. Always."
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Lee Moulding and Darlene May Moulding, and her brother, Michael Ray Moulding.
