Brit passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 21, 2015. He was born on December 23, 1929 the 5th of 6 children to Clarence Keenan and Elizabeth Lykens in Goodville, PA. Brit grew-up in Goodville and surrounding Lancaster County, an area referred to today as Amish Country. He graduated from New Holland High School in May, 1947.
After high school, Brit went to work for New Holland Machine Company. Not leaving his destiny to chance, he decided to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was selected for and successfully completed pilot training. As a pilot, Brit was able to see the world. He flew trainers, jets and cargo aircraft accumulating over 5,000 hours of flight time. His Air Force career spanned over 20 years including both active duty and reserve time. He retired from the Air Force in the mid 1970s at the rank of Colonel.
Running parallel to his Air Force career was a second career as an engineer. Brit graduated from Weber State College and The University of Utah with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Most of his working years in the engineering field were at Hill Air Force Base. He worked many years in procurement eventually retiring as the F4 systems safety engineer in 1990.
In his retirement years he continued traveling with his wife as well as pursuing passions of golf and skiing. It was really golf that he loved and pursued consistently until his passing. He and a group of good friends played golf almost daily at the Ogden Golf and Country Club and for many years competed at senior amateur golf events around the state. He had nine holes in one in his lifetime and two of those came this year at the age of 85.
Brit was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brother and one infant son, Derrick T. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Darlene (Tribe), a Son Craig (Karen), granddaughters Elizabeth (Josh) and Sara. He also leaves behind many close friends to whom our family is especially grateful.
