Daisybel Mound Erskine Ebert passed peacefully from this life into the next at the age of 92 with her daughter Ellen at her side on Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017, in Holladay, Utah.
Daisybel lived a full and joyful life. She was born January 21, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ralph James Erskine and Daisy (Mound) Erskine.
After a lively childhood growing up in Lowellville, Ohio, Daisybel attended and graduated from Pittsburgs Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, and considered herself a nurse all her life. She later acquired her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine (1976).
In 1947, she married Walter A. Ebert, and in 1955 he was recruited to be an aeronautical engineer in southern California. She became a real Californian, playing tennis, bicycling, skiing (last skied on her 80th birthday!) and sailing with Walt in their Lido 14. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years holding camp-outs in the orange grove behind her house in Garden Grove (1955-1967). Daisybel and Walt loved the ocean and eventually fulfilled their dream moving to Newport Beach in 1968. She loved to walk, dance, sail, sing, love deeply, and entertain and care for those she loved and for complete strangers. Widowed in 1976, she later married Gerhard Rueckert, living on a ranch together in south-central Colorado.
Daisybel was a traveler exploring as far south as Australia and as far North as Inverness, Scotland. She sailed the Mediterranean with her granddaughter, Heather, and traveled Europe with her daughters, granddaughters, Laura and Heather, and her husband. She made her last big trip up to Canada for Heather and Pauls wedding in 2016.
She is survived by her daughters, Adele (Peter) Kanabe of Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, Ellen Birrell (Jim Hutchins) on a sailboat somewhere in the Caribbean, her son, Paul (Tonya) Ebert of Richmond, VA, her grandchildren, Laura (Mori) Collins, Heather (Paul) Sayers, Matthew (Tara) Kanabe, Ian Birrell, Neil (Laurie) Birrell, Maxwell and Lars Ebert, and her great grandchildren, Aisling and Talia Wieler, Blake and Kennedy Birrell, Summer and Joshua Kanabe, and Wyatt Sayers, her sister Isabel Slupecke of Williamsport, PA, and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
