IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel
Farley
August 1, 1935 – December 20, 2024
Our wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather Daniel Farley died on December 20, 2024. Daniel was born in Glen Ellen, Illinois in 1935. He was the second of three children born to Daniel Farley and Genevieve Cameron.
Daniel and Marilyn Doerr were married in 1957 in Lisle, Illinois, and they were rarely apart during their 56 years together. In their later years, they spent countless hours hiking the mountains east of Ogden, Utah. They often traveled to Bend, Oregon, Northern Nevada and Southern Utah to pursue their passion for hiking the beautiful mountains of the West. Daniel and Marilyn were proud of the fact that even in their 70's, they could climb to Angel's Landing in Zion National Park faster than most of their children!
When Daniel finished college in 1958, they moved to the Denver area so Dan could begin his business career. He spent many years in the airline industry in finance and accounting, first with Frontier Airline in Denver and then with Alaska Airline in Seattle. Later, he worked for Johnson Controls and Associated Pipe and Tubing. But Dan seemed to find the greatest career satisfaction when he and Marilyn purchased Servco Heating and Air Conditioning in 1988. His son Tom and later his son-in-law Andrew joined him in the business. Dan expanded the company and added mechanical construction to the business. He sold the company shortly before he and Marilyn retired.
While in Colorado, they were blessed to adopt their first child, Thomas. Less than a year later, they were able to adopt another newborn, their first daughter Karen. Two years later, they were blessed again when Janet was added to the family. Daniel loved his children and was always grateful for their presence in his home.
After Marilyn passed Dan continued his love of hiking and the outdoors. One Sunday after dinner he announced that he was leaving in two days for a hiking tour of Newfoundland! While he was there, he met Emily McQueen. Dan and Emily eventually moved to Southwest Harbor in Arcadia National Park. They spent many years exploring Maine, eating lobster rolls and traveling abroad.
In 2018, at the age of 83, he was awarded the first of two patents for a high efficiency electric generator.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary (Tom) Calstead. He is survived by his sister Helen Cipriano (Sam), son Thomas (Cindy), and daughters Karen Mueller (Byron) and Janet Halley (Andrew). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
There will be no formal services. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Tom, Karen and Janet devoted countless hours helping Dan in his final months of life, and Dan was grateful for their efforts. Whether it was serving him a meal or taking him for a ride in the mountains, his children showed him their love by their actions. Their example will never be forgotten.
