Darlene Steffen Chapman's Obituary

Darlene Steffen Chapman, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on February 11, 2017. She was born on March 26, 1933 in Elwood, Utah to Lawrence and Iris Hunsaker Steffen. She graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State College. She married Max Koons Chapman, they later divorced. She devoted 35 years of nursing at Ogden Clinic. She loved to read, knit, crochet and rent movies. She raised four children on her own and she made sure we had a fun vacation every summer. We sometimes felt like we were raised in a canvas tent! If we werent in Yellowstone with the bears, we were at Bryce Canyon, Zion and the Grand Canyon. Darlene dedicated herself to working hard and providing for her children. She built and took pride in the rock wall that she built in the back yard with her bare hands. She used to play the piano beautifully; shed play "Diggin up worms" for us for fun. She always put 120% into everything she did. She loved sewing in her younger years, making matching shirts for the boys and matching dresses for the girls and herself. She sacrificed her old piano to buy us our first color television. When all of us kids were little, she enjoyed hand dipping chocolates and letting us lick the chocolate off her fingers after she was done. Moms chocolates will forever remind us what a sweet and loving mother we were blessed with. We love you and will truly miss you every day. She was known as Grandma Cuckoo to her grandchildren as she had a cuckoo clock. Grandma Cuckoo always loved having her grandkids spend the weekend with her. The grandkids loved being there as she spoiled them rotten. Darlene is survived by her children, Mike (Nicki) Chapman, Rick (Maryann) Chapman, Karen Smith, Cathy Chapman (Boyd) Sorenson; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis Steffen and Ed (Marilou) Steffen. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob Steffen; sister, Betty Steffen. No services will be held at Darlenes request. Arrangements under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Please send condolences to family at: www.leavittsmortuary.com
