Darrell Edward Ryan, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grand father departed this mortal life Tuesday, May 7, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.Darrell was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Jay Ryan and Bessie Voss. He married his sweetheart Kathleen. The union was solemnized in the Salt Lake temple. He served in the army during the Korean War where he earned many commendations including Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, UN Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was injured during the Korean conflict during a secret mission. He attended officer training school where he graduated with honors. He worked at various jobs in heating and air conditioning. He eventually opened his own business. Darrell is a member of the LDS church where he served faithfully in many positions such as Scouts, Sunday School, Elders quorum to name a few. His love for the Lord was not a list of positions but in his service and love of others. When anyone needed help he responded readily. He was a living example of the service Christ taught. He never cared about building a big bank account and buying earthly possessions but spent his time and money with those he cared most about.Welcome him home dear father for he has served Thee well. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Syracuse), sister Helen Wiedeman (Norfolk, NE) Five valiant sons and their wives Terry (Deanna), Rick (Debbie), Tim (London), Kelly (Caryn) Tracy (Treesa), 19 cherished grandchildren and 29 adored great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Brothers Kenneth, Thomas, Donald and Dean, sisters Dorothy, Velma, an infant twin sister, Delores, an infant grandson, Kayden James. A viewing will be at the Syracuse Stake Center, 1350 S. 1800 W. Monday, May 13, from 6-8 pm and Tuesday, May 14, 10-11am. Funeral services Tuesday May 14th at 11am. Interment Syracuse Cemetery.
