Dawna Chloe Houston Tourangeau, 75 years of age, peacefully slipped away to Heaven in her sleep on Tuesday, February 6th, 2018. Oh, what a hay day just for coming into this world from the most beautiful place a person could ever imagine. Dawna was the oldest of seven children born November 28, 1942 to Roy D. Houston and Chloe Irene Reese Houston at the Logan L.D.S. Hospital in Logan, Utah.
Dawna married her eternal companion, Phillip Warren Tourangeau, on March 13, 1968. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on January 4, 1971. Dawna lived in Logan, Ogden, Georgia, West Yellowstone and finally called Harrisville her home for over the past 40 years.
Dawna was a very loving and compassionate person to all she came in contact with throughout her life. She had the Christ-like attribute to serve her fellow men. She held many work positions that showed this Christ-like service. In her early life she was a waitress for several cafes and eating establishments. With the last one being the owner, operator, and cook at Mama Dukes Caf in Ogden, Utah. Later in life, Dawna did child care and then moved into special needs care working as an independent contractor through C.O.S.H. Dawna also worked as a private contractor to families to take care of elderly people. She loved to care for others and always made sure they were content and had a full belly. Dawna worked for Convergys on the E-bay project and would serve the many customers and clients before she finally made the decision to retire from the work force.
Dawna also held many callings in the LDS wards she belonged to during her residency in Harrisville. Her service included all ages, from Nursery, Primary Secretary, Cub Scout Chairman, to Young Womens Camp Director, and the calling she loved the most was putting together the Sunday bulletin each week.
Dawna had diabetes throughout her life and for the past five years has had to be on dialysis. She made the decision to do home dialysis so she could care for her granddaughter, Krystal Rowe, while her daughter, Janette, worked from home. During this time, Dawna and Phil would live in Snowville, Utah during the week to take care of Krystal and then go back to their home in Harrisville on the weekends. Dialysis became her new "normal". Over the past four months, Dawna had a decline in her health and she became very weak. Yet, during this time she still had compassion and wanted to help others instead of allowing others to help her.
Dawna was many things to many people and loved her family most of all. Through thick and thin, Dawna was a pure example of enduring to the end. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a person of strong character, selflessness, determination, love and service.
Dawna is survived by her husband, Phillip Tourangeau; her siblings; Tamara (Rod) Royer, Claudia Chamberlain, Roger Houston, Gay (Les) McBirnie, Joy (Jim) Peterson, and Ellen (Mark) Minnoch; her children James Dee Tourangeau, Debra (Robert) Peterson, Teresa (Richard) Birch, Alicia (Troy) Horn, and Janette (Daniel) Rowe; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Dawna is preceded in death by her parents Roy D. and Chloe Irene Houston; brother-in-law John Chamberlain and her grandson, Richard Brandon Birch.
We would like to recognize the care of the many doctors, nurses and staff at McKay Dee Hospital, Liberty Dialysis (South Ogden Clinic), and Northern Utah Rehab Hospital. Also, the assistance of many neighbors and ward members that have assisted in her care for the past several months.
