Debra Morris's Obituary

Debra Morris, 62, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017, at the home of her son after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on March 19, 1955, the oldest of five children, to Vay Elden Morris and Myrlan Druce Morris. She lived in Washington Terrace in the early years of her life and then moved to Eden, Utah, where she attended Valley Jr. High. She graduated from Weber High School in 1973, and then attended Weber State University. After moving to California for a time, she earned a certificate in computer software. Her greatest pride was her son, Rhyan, and she worked hard as a single parent to provide for him. She worked for Convergys and Wells Fargo as an account manager. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the atonement. She enjoyed camping, movies, being a mother and an aunt, visits with her sister, and time with family. She especially loved her grandson, Christopher. She had a talent for crocheting and knitting, often making things without using a pattern. While receiving treatment for her cancer, she connected to other cancer patients on a personal level and radiated a positive attitude and kindness. She often mentioned the nurses at McKay-Dee and her friends from her Tuesday treatment group. She is survived by her son Rhyan Morris of Midvale, grandson Christopher Reese Morris of Midvale, and siblings: Greg Morris (Dennise) of Clinton, Matthew Morris (Leeann) of Logan, and Melanie Stokes (Doug) of Syracuse. She is also survived by her mother Myrlan Tanovich of Layton, sister-in-law Sandra Blotter Morris (Michael) of Salt Lake, eight nephews, and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael V. Morris and her father. The family would like to thank Dr. Vincent Hansen and the nursing staff at McKay-Dees Cancer Treatment Center for their care and compassion.
