Delbert Glen Brown, 92, of South Jordan Utah, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and honored WWII veteran passed peacefully from this life September 29th, 2013 with family by his side. Delbert was born march 12, 1921 in North Ogden UT, to William Glen Brown and Annie Margaret Thorsted. He grew up in Ogden UT and was a member of Ogden High Schools first graduating class. He played the coronet in a local dance band called the 3 Ds. He attended Weber State College on a music scholarship and Butler University. He married Edna Mae Hazen in Ogden on March 21, 1941 and they enjoyed over 69 joyful years together in home, travel and with family. Together they resided in OgdenUT until he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. They traveled together throughout his military training to Indianapolis IN; San Antonio TX; Garden City KS; Altus OK; where Delbert received his pilots wings in medium bombers as a 2nd lieutenant in the US army Air Corps. He served in Bakersfield CA and San Bernardino where he trained other pilots on radar operations. After the war he built their first home in Roy, UT, and then they resided in Vernal UT, South Ogden UT, Denver CO, Bountiful UT, Provo UT, Apache Junction, AZ Mesa AZ, South Jordan UT. Delbert was a member of the LDS Church all his life. He was a scout master and ward clerk. He was a Roy City Councilman with responsibility over the city police department. He was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and numerous civic clubs. He was an avid Golfer, fisherman, hunter and boater. He loved to travel and watch John Wayne movies. He was a dedicated BYU sports fan. He loved the symphony. He liked to dance, eat, and have fun. He and Edna would make friends in all the campgrounds they visited. Delbert retired from Mountain Bell after 43 years of combined service. He began his career as a switchman in Ogden working the night shift. He rose through the ranks attaining the titles of Chief Switchman, Plant Manager, Commercial Manager and Traffic Manager and District Manager. He managed the conversion from manual switch board to rotary dial for the Vernal UT area. He ended his career as a 3rd level manager. Delbert is survived by his brother Jerry Brown (Marva), sons Val D. Brown ( Anna Lou), Jay R. Brown, daughter Jolene Cassatt (Mike), 13 grand children, 47 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Delbert was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph O. Brown and wife Edna . Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 4, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street. A viewing will held from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment: Aultorest Memorial Park.
