Del Driscoll, the most loving and quick-witted person we know, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the ripe old age of 83, following a year fighting one health condition which turned to several, all while hopeful and determined to recover.
Del was born May 30, 1943, to Michael and Ferne Driscoll in Soudan, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school, proudly serving three tours in Vietnam and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. As a helicopter crew chief, he also helped prepare his unit to retrieve astronauts returning from space during NASA’s historic Apollo recovery missions. Eventually stationed at Hill Air Force Base, he grew to love Utah after meeting his future wife, Cheryl. They married and raised three children, Michael, Stephanie, and Megan.
Del loved the outdoors, especially biking and golfing. When he wasn’t outside, he could be found tinkering around the house, working in the yard, or enjoying his cars, a 1969 Corvette Stingray and a 1940 Ford coupe. Sitting still was never his strong suit. An avid sports fan, he especially loved cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Utah Jazz.
Del relished being a father, volunteering with Boy Scouts and always making time for his children. One of his favorite memories was coming home to the sound of his kids laughing, something he spoke of often. Generous and hardworking, he was always willing to lend a hand, including through service projects at Washington Heights Church. Throughout his life, he continued to learn, grow, and embrace change, showing that it’s never too late to become a better version of yourself.
Despite the challenges of his final year, he never lost his wit, his curiosity about science and aircraft, or his love for family and friends.
It’s comforting to imagine Del reunited with his loved ones on the other side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Ferne; his wife, Cheryl; all but one of his siblings; and the family’s beloved dogs. He is survived by his children, Michael of Oregon, Stephanie and Megan of Utah; and his cherished brother, Terry (Jeanne) of Minnesota.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the nurses and care staff who cared for Del at the VA. Their compassion, patience, and dedication brought comfort and dignity to his final days, and their kindness will never be forgotten.
A viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026, at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. In lieu of flowers, bring a funny story about Del or drive something cool. Dad would have loved that, and we will love it for him.
