Delbert P. WilliamsDelbert Pershing Williams, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 10, 2011 surrounded by family at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Nursing Home. He was born March 23, 1925 in Plain City, Utah. He was the son of Daniel P. and Ada M. Skeen Williams. He grew up in Plain City and graduated from Weber High School. He attended college at Utah State University and certified in method of time measurement. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was in a weather squadron and was on five different aircraft carriers. He was a tail gunner in a TBM Avenger where he was one of the few that served in the South Pacific conflict and was one of the first torpedo bombers to fly night missions off aircraft carriers. Delbert married Charlotte Church on June 18, 1948 and was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 18, 1963. He was a loving husband of 62 years and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, and integrity. He owned and operated his family farm in Plain City which was once owned by his grandfather who first settled Plain City. He was employed at Hill Air Force Base in the Industrial Engineering Section where he developed and published the first Earned Hour Reporting Method for the base. Later, he worked at GSL mineral and chemical, where he did sampling, research and development on the solar ponds. Delbert also worked for Farrs Ice Cream and Maw Equipment. Delbert enjoyed traveling with his family and working with them at fairs and rodeos. He was an active member of the LDS church and held the position of High Priest and home teacher. He loved serving as general secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood, a position he held for over 20 years. Delbert was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 6154 and the Ogden Square Dancers Association.Delbert is survived by his wife, Charlotte Church Williams and his three children: David P. (Judith) Williams, Ginger (Ron) Brown, Charlene (Monte) Kelso; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings-three sisters and two brothers. Delbert believed that a good family could make good men. His goal was to have a good family, which he achieved during his time on earth. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Nursing Home, Love Hospice, Dr. Hansen and Dr. Call for all of their wonderful care.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday March 14, 2011 at Leavitts Mortuary (836 36th street, Ogden, Utah). A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday March 13, 2011 and before services on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary.
