In Loving Memory of Dennis Grant Newman

Dennis Grant Newman, 86, a long-time resident of Ogden, UT, left us way too soon on December 14th, 2025.

Rulon Marchant and Dinah Rudd Newman welcomed Dennis into their family in Idaho Falls on September 10th, 1939. He was the fourth child of seven: RJ (Glenda) Newman, Rosaline (George) Chandler, Claude (Jeanine) Newman, Ann (Nathan) Yearsley, David (Linda) Newman, and Dan Newman.

After high school, Dennis worked with his brother RJ for the forest service in New Meadows, ID and attended Ricks College for a year. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kansas. After returning from his mission, he dated and then married Julia Warnick on January 19th, 1962, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Dennis was drafted by the Army in July 1962 and served much of his service in Germany, where the first of his two children, Sonia, was born in 1963.

After his service, Dennis and Julia returned to Utah and eventually settled down in Ogden, where Dennis enrolled at Weber State College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. He worked various jobs in sales, including selling shoes at The Bon Marche in downtown Ogden. In 1967, Dennis and Julia welcomed their son, Christopher (Kenlyn), into their family. Dennis then served his community as a parole officer for several years while also volunteering for the local fire department and as a ski patrolman for Powder Mountain.

Dennis and Julia separated and divorced in the fall of 1978. Dennis continued living in Ogden and joined the 309th Maintenance Wing at Hill Air Force Base in 1982, serving a distinguished 25 years. He was known for his unwavering commitment, strong work ethic, and the lasting bonds he formed with colleagues. Dennis retired with respect and admiration in September 2007.

In March of 1988, Dennis married his loving companion of 4 years, Denice. With this new connection, Dennis welcomed four more children into his life. Chad (Mary) Peterson, Joseph Peterson, Bob (Heather) Peterson. and Karie (Derrick) Branch.

Dennis was always an optimistic and outgoing person who was inspired by curiosity and adventure. His interests varied from skiing, sailing, playing the guitar, gardening, cooking, traveling, and visiting national parks. Not one to be idle with is time, he fearlessly dove into numerous house remodeling projects as well, including installing new water lines from the city, putting on a new roof, remodeling his kitchen and bathroom, extending the house out front and back, as well as building a back deck and a stone patio. He was also a huge Denver Broncos fan, watching and following every game he could.

The most important aspects of Dennis' life revolved around being a father, grandfather, uncle, friend to anyone and loving husband to Denice. Dennis had an endless supply of compassion for all while also sharing a lot of witty wisdom and joy. His love and support for those around him was always unconditional.

Dennis has four surviving siblings: Claude, Ann, David, and Dan. His wife Denice. Daughter Sonia, and sons Christopher, Chad, Joesph, and Bob.

He has 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Rulon and Dinah Newman. His siblings, RJ Newman and Rosaline Chandler, and his stepdaughter Karie and son-in-law, Derrick.

Dennis will be cremated per his wishes. A celebration of life will be arranged sometime in February or March, allowing time for the planning and travel of all those who would like to pay their respects to and share stories of this great man.
