September 22, 1960 – July 21, 2024
Derrick E Sandman, 63, beloved husband, father, poppa, son and brother, passed away at his home of congestive heart failure on Sunday July 21, 2024.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1960 in Pasadena California to Al and Linda Sandman. He grew up in Brawley Ca. before moving to Ogden Utah in 1973. Derrick graduated from Bonneville High School in 1978. He attended college at Rio Hondo in Whittier Ca. and Weber State Univ. in Ogden. Derrick worked at Western Zirconium for 36 years.
Derrick married Laurie Bay on August 13, 1983 in Ogden Utah. They have 2 sons, Shaun Sandman (Sara Gleave), Brian (Erika) Sandman and 4 beautiful grandchildren.
Derrick's greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved to tease and joke with them. He also loved the pool, hot weather, fishing, hot sauce and Copenhagen.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laurie; sons Shaun Sandman (Sara Gleave) Brian (Erika) Sandman and grandchildren Madelyn, Carter, Ava and Lyla Sandman. He is also survived by his father, Al Sandman; siblings Tony Sandman, Chris Housley, Sarah (Bob) Huberty and Jon (Carmen) Sandman; brother-in-law Roger Bay and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Sandman; in laws Roger and Ruth Ann Bay and brother-in-law Lynn Housley.
The family would like to thank Dr Gary Holland, Kristi, Christina, Lauren and Nick from A Plus Hospice for their loving care of Derrick and the family. Thank you also to Roger for the selfless dedication and love given to Derrick and our family.
No services will be held as per Derrick's wishes. A gathering of family and close friends will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to A Plus Hospice, 375 N Main Street #103 in Layton Ut. 84037 or to your local Red Cross.
