Dixie Ann Shupe Powell's Obituary

Dixie passed away August 24, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 9, 1935 to Leota Ipsen and Que Eugene Shupe in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1953. She married the love of her life, George F. Powell, Jr. on October 16, 1954. They were married almost 60 years. The family appreciated his never-ending dedication, love, and support to her. After graduating from high school, Dixie went on to work at L R Samuels where she developed her keen eye for fashion and style. She never left home without being dressed to the nines. Her flair for style followed throughout her life. She had the most finely decorated home, where she entertained family and friends on special occasions. She had a love of flowers, gardening and her yard was a showpiece that she meticulously cared for. Dixie was a culinary master and always a gracious host. Dixie served faithfully as an Air Force wife and lived in many locations and traveled the world. During their time of service, she was the President of the Red Cross of the Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Officers Wives Club. Throughout their lives, Dixie and George continued their love of travel. She enjoyed all of the exotic places they visited, but most of all, she enjoyed being home with her loving husband. Dixie had a fan club wherever she went due to her compassion, kindness, love, and generosity. Her example of unconditional love was a lesson to us all. In their last years, she enjoyed beading and made hundreds of beautiful necklaces. She and George jokingly had their club of the Birds and the Beads. Her love of travel never ended as she constantly wanted George to take her on rides. Dixie has finally found her rainbow connection. Dixie is survived by her husband George, her brother Jerry (Diane) Shupe, North Ogden. Her four sons, Kirk (Cathy), Apache Junction, AZ; Brad (Connie) North Ogden, UT; Michael (Chris), Ogden, and Jeff (Christie), Pleasant View and Becky Powell. She has 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald Shupe; grandson, Recus Swain and her three loving dogs.
