Dona Thornock's Obituary

Dona Simpson Thornock April 30, 1917 April 26, 2017 Mom was born April 30, 1917 to Isaac E and Elsie Deseret Morris Simpson in Rexburg, Idaho. She moved from Drummond, Idaho to Ogden, Utah at the age of seven, attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School. She attended Weber Academy to learn secretarial skills, was a member of the horseback riding club and president of the French Club, but always told us that she majored in Parkology. She worked as an elevator operator at Ben Lomond Hotel, Secretary of the Elks Club, IRS key punch operator and at DDO in procurement. She also served as pianist in her ward primary. On August 10, 1942, Mom married Dad, Wilford Rudgar Thornock, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Mom was a perfectionist and approached everything she did with that goal. She enjoyed and worked hard to perfect her garden, baking bread, sewing, cooking, knitting, piano and sweeping. Nobody could clean a campsite like mom with a broom. She also loved to read and we are blessed that she passed her love of books and music to her children and grandchildren. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and a great-grandchild. Mom is survived by her son, Craig S. (Susan) Thornock, South Ogden, Utah and her two daughters, Candi R. Wentland and Toni S. (Van) Gilbert, Riverdale, Utah, 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will meet friends at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on Monday May 1, 2017 between 9:45 AM and 10:45 AM with graveside services to honor moms life at 11:00 AM Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
