Donald William Burke
June 10, 1941 ~ March 11, 2019
Donald William Burke passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, after battling four months of health issues. Donald was born in Denver, Colorado on June 10, 1941, to Ruth and Norville Baker and later adopted by his stepfather, Edmund Burke. He was their second son and spent most of his young life in Denver.
He attended Denver High School and was on the swim team. He enjoyed teaching private lessons to help others overcome their fear of water and worked as a lifeguard. He was highly educated and graduated college with masters degrees in Medical Administration and Biology. He used these degrees to work as a hospital administrator and later as an insurance broker. Donald enjoyed his work as an insurance agent and found success in running his own business. He loved helping people and wanted to make you smile.
He married Ellen McEwen and had two sons. They were married for 28 years and raised their boys in Oregon, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, and California. He was respected for his high work ethic and wasnt afraid to learn new things. He was always a financial supporter for his family and taught them never to be afraid to ask for things because it never hurt to ask. Education was important in his family. This marriage ended in divorce.
He later married Marilyn Ruth Hards and converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marilyn and Donald were married for 27 years and lived in California and Utah. They enjoyed traveling and visiting with their children and grandchildren. They spent many hours at their cabin in Beaver Utah with their grandchildren and family walking around Puffer Lake.
His spirit was as big as his frame, and his hugs would melt away any stress you may be feeling. He always had a joke ready for you and enjoyed being silly to make you feel at ease when you were with him. He loved to find unique holiday hats to help show his holiday spirit. For him, the goofier the better and his Santa Clause earmuffs were always a favorite.
In the last six months of his life, it became difficult for Donald to speak. He would not let that stop him from making sure that he knew you were there, and he was glad you came to see him. He was able to spend his last moments with Marilyn.
Donald is survived by Marilyn Burke (wife), Steve (Rosie) Burke (son), David Burke (son), Melissa McGrath (stepdaughter), Heather Hyatt (stepdaughter), Stacie Harris (adopted daughter), Abigail McGrath (granddaughter), Miranda Covarrubia (granddaughter), Kamiko Kawada (granddaughter), Tyler Kawada (grandson), Kyle Kawada (grandson), Jaden Harris (grandson), Kallie Jo Harris (granddaughter), and Alex Harris (grandson).
