Donald Thomas Edvalson, age 80 passed away of causes incident to age, Monday May 14, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones. He left this earthly life to join Doris, his "Sweetie Pie and love of his life", that preceded him in death March 23, 2006. Don was born, October 18, 1931 in Ogden Utah to Merlin and Josephine Edvalson. He lived a long, happy and productive life in the Ogden area. Donald proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War and remained a patriotic supporter of military causes throughout his life. Don also lost his brother and closest friend, Carrol Edvalson during that same war. Upon returning home from duty, Don worked in various jobs but found his career working at Hill Air Force Base as an electronic technician where he retired in 1987. In 1957 he was introduced to Doris J. Thompson and it was love at first sight. The two were married on May 26, 1957 and remained happily married for over 48 years. They raised a blended family from previous marriages including Darrell and Roger McBeath and Thomas and Dona Edvalson (Applonie). This happy marriage included a lot of camping, hunting and fishing throughout Utah and the western United States. After retirement Don and Doris traveled extensively in their motorhome. They spent their winters in Yuma, and Apache Junction, Arizona, and their summers in Star Valley, Wyoming.During the last several years, Donald became very active in the LDS church where he served as a Ward Mission Leader, High Priest Group Secretary and a faithful Home Teacher in the Lomond View Ward. He completed the temple work for his family and they were sealed together in January 2008. Don had a keen mind and was very innovative in trouble shooting just about any mechanical or electrical issue. He was very good with his hands; he could build anything and was very creative with very little means. He was the dad that could fix anything. Don was a very kind man with a gentle spirit. He was loved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sons Darrell McBeath of Mesquite, Nevada; Roger (Barbara) McBeath of Ogden, Utah; Thomas (Joy) Edvalson of North Hills, California; and daughter Dona (Scott) Applonie of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He has 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who will always remember their "Papa". A private graveside service will be held by the family.
