Don was born on May 29, 1941 in Arroyo Grande, Califonia near the ocean between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. Don lived in Santa Maria, Fresno and Bishop, Califonia.
While growing up in Santa Maria, Don realized his love of the ocean. Don loved fishing and diving for Abalone or edible sea snails.
In October 1961, Don enlisted in the Armed Services. In 1962, while serving in the army, he graduated from the Airborne Class #31 in the 43rd Company of Paratroopers. After he was discharged from the army he served in the reserve until 1967.
In 1983 Don met the love of his life, Diana. They were very active in the American Legion and VFW.
Living in California, Don worked for Ace Hardware and Wal-Mart in Fontana.
Throughout the years, Don continued to fish every chance he got. He also loved to cook, and became quite accomplished in the art of cooking. Don would even cook up rice to feed the wild critters where he lived, such as birds, cats, opossums, etc.
Don has always had a great love for dogs and has had many over the years.
Don recently moved to Utah from California so he could be closer to his sister Lora Broadbent who lives in Liberty, Utah. He has two other sisters, Lucy Rickman (Fallon, NV), Sybil Thayer, (Quartzsite, AZ); two brothers, Vestal Hasty, (Puebo, CO), John Shane (Phoenix, AZ) and step mother, Genevieve Ledbetter (Fallen, NV).
