Donald C. Montgomery, 88, of Liberty, Utah passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 while doing what he found most enjoyable, caring for his animals. Don was the first son born to his parents George Elery Montgomery and Eva Elizabeth Clark. He was born February 8, 1928. Don was the second child born to his parents, and they lovingly cared for him. His older sister June died as a young child. His siblings are June (deceased), Willis (deceased), Marvel Hislop, Robert Gerald, Neila Hadley, Nancy Favero, and Dennis. Don married Marcene Wayment September 26, 1956. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Six children were born to this union. They also invited an Indian Placement Student into their family. Their children are Ronda Wadman (Dave), Cody Todd Montgomery (Karen), Heidi Jo Bailey, Darla McCoy (Kelly), Lesha Montgomery, Mitzi Deeter (Brian), and Franklin Martin Jr. (Anna). Don is survived by his wife, children, 26 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest love and accomplishment. He was known for holding the extended family together. Don often said there was no better place to live and grow than in Liberty, surrounded by the beautiful mountains he considered his backyard. He spent many hours riding the trails on the back of a horse enjoying the natural beauties provided by our Creator. He shared his love of animals, hunting, fishing, and nature with family and friends. He expressed his gratitude for all the blessings he enjoyed. He found pleasure in simple things. He could be found resting in a cool grassy place almost any time or place. Don was an avid horseman. He shared this love with his wife and children. He often took his family on great overnight fishing, hunting, and camping trips. He lived and breathed to go hunting. The Kammeyer Sports Store awarded him a beautiful gold and silver inlaid rifle for winning their largest antler contest. He took great pride in it. He was always willing to share with others. He was great at visiting friends and family and nourishing friendships. His love of country was a big part of his life. He served in the military during the Korean War Conflict and the men he served with in the 45theavy Mortar Heavy Mortar Division are like brothers to him. He loved them as he loved family and looked forward to attending the wonderful reunions these men and their wives had. He loved his Savior and his church. He and Marcene served a mission to Nauvoo Illinois. Don said, "My mission was like a good hunt; I was in the right place at the right time." They also served six years at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and around the Salt Lake Temple. He was blessed with lasting friendships wherever he went because of his humility and his love of others. There was nothing showy about Don . . . what you saw was what you got. His lifes motto was "Do Good." His life was well-lived and well-rounded. It was made even greater by his love of sports. He participated for many years in the Baseball Local Farm Bureau League, and was on the church basketball team. Don could be counted on to show up and do whatever he said he would. He enjoyed the years he could actively participate on teams but he also loved being a spectator. He loved the Utah Jazz. He praised and admired any young player who put his heart and soul into becoming better. Funeral services will be under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the North Fork LDS Ward Chapel located at 4279 N. 3300 E., Liberty, Utah. The Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Fork Chapel. He will be laid to rest in the Liberty Cemetery.
