Donna Joy Stone passed away on September 12, 2016, rejoining her sweetheart Robert Philip Stone, who most certainly said to her, Joy, what took ya so long? Mom never liked to be early. To her, it was logic: she knew she hated waiting more than other people did, so of course others should understand if she was the last to arrive. Always one to do things her way, Joy died peacefully on her own schedule with no specific cause of death other than that she was 90 years old and ready to go.
Joy was born May 7, 1926 to Elmer and Ruth Lasater in Murray, Utah.
She graduated from Murray High School and took classes for a year at the University of Utah, where she studied Russian during the Cold War, to the consternation of her top-secret-clearance husband who received a visit from his government employers to discuss his wifes studies. Joy had a career long before such a thing was common for women, and in the 1960s was one of few high-ranking female civil service employees at Hill Air Force Base, working as a management analyst in the Office of Plans and Operations.
Bob and Joy lived many happy years in Roy, Utah as members of the Lakeview Ward, the Roy 13th Ward, and the Cedar Crest Ward; they also lived in France and San Bernardino, California.
The greatest love of her life was her son, Kelly Robert Stone, whom she had at the age of forty after trying for seventeen years. She was so glad to welcome a new daughter into the family when Kelly married Heather Joy Holmes in 1988, and was thrilled with the arrival of each of her four grandchildren: Dillon Kelly Stone, McKenzie Joy Stone, Bailey Elaine Stone, and Sadie Rae Stone.
Donna is survived by her brother, E. Lee Lasater and sister, Gloria Wilkes, and preceded in death by sister, Shirley Hoggan.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Cedar Crest Ward, 3845 S. 2000 W. in Roy, Utah.
