Dorothy Evelyn Whitlow Littrell passed away at her home on July 6, 2011, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born March 23, 1928 in the panhandle of West Texas to George Alford and Ada Lee Mitchell Whitlow. Her great-grandparents pioneered the area which had become Ropesville, Texas on the highway between Lubbock and Brownfield by the time she was born. Dorothy was educated in Texas and New Mexico. In 1956 she became the first woman to pass the CPA exam in New Mexico. She practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for 40 years. 24 of those years she practiced in Ogden as the partner in Costley and Littrell, CPAs with her trusted partner, Lew Costley.Dorothy was a strong supporter of citizen involvement in government. Her first experience was in New Mexico in 1960 where she headed up the Volunteers for Nixon-Lodge in Eddy County. She and a handful of voters changed New Mexico into a two-party state which it had not been since the 1930s. Dorothy was a Utah Alternate Delegate to the GOP Convention in 1976 in Kansas City. She was a strong supporter of Orrin Hatch for the U.S. Senate. She grew to regret this just as she later regretted her support for Nixon. She came to believe that every citizen owed it to this country to become well-informed on the issues and especially on the candidates running for office. She always said, Never vote a straight ticket 100% for Party candidates.Throughout her life Dorothy has been a crusader for many causes that she believed in. Over the years she has been the recipient of many awards, beginning with the 1960 honor of Woman of the Year from the American Business Womens Association until her most recent award as Citizen of the year in 2005 from the Citizens Advocate. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 34 years, Ralph E. Littrell; and her beloved companion of her later years, James R. (Jim) Briley. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Molly Prince (Lacee Harris), Salt Lake City and her son, Paul (Sherrie) Littrell, Roy; grandsons, Chad Champneys, West Haven and Shayne (Tracie) Champneys, West Haven, Bryan (Jen) Littrell, West Weber; great-grandsons, Saygen, Kohyn and Rylen Champneys; great-granddaughter Brianna Champneys; and great-grand twins Cache and Kelty Littrell. Dorothy and Jim Briley were involved in the creation of the Eccles Community Art Center Foundation in 1999 to assure permanent funds for maintenance of Art Center Buildings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Foundation, 2580 Jefferson, Ogden, Utah.The family wishes to thank Dorothys many friends for their support and prayers.
