Dorthea Jean Yancey Dixon Finch passed away peacefully in her sleep April 15, 2016 at the age of 91.
Dorthea was born November 5, 1924 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to David Darrell and Olen Gardner Yancey, the oldest of three girls. She grew up in and around Pleasant Grove and attended Pleasant Grove High School.
In March of 1941 Dorthea married Thomas Clifford Dixon and together they had five boys and one daughter. For most of their married life Dorthea and T.C. lived in Washington Terrace, Utah, but in their retirement years they moved to McKinleyville, California where T.C. preceded her in death. In 1996 she married Thomas E. Finch who also preceded her in death.
Throughout her life Dorthea was a very active, artistic and social person. She loved making dolls, ceramic and porcelain figurines and oil painting. She also enjoyed sewing costumes and clothing for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed square dancing with T.C and sewing her dresses and his matching shirts. She always prided herself on her artistic abilities and her positive outlook on life.
Dorthea worked outside the home much of her married life and retired from the Defense Depot Ogden in 1972. She took an active interest in politics and for a time served as president of her local chapter of NARFE.
Dorthea is survived by her sons Clifford, Danny (Vivian), Kelly (Linda); her daughter Mary Ann (Ray) Wilson and her special daughter-in-law Rhonda (Darren) Degroot; her sister Alice (Frank) Heiser; 17 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 36 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons Tom and Jim Dixon, her grandchildren Erin McKenzie, Mathew Wheeler and Shauna Dixon and her sister Shirley Thayer Britt.
A special thanks go out to her long time caregivers Natalie Osborn and Linda Dixon, her friend Cherie Frame, the entire Foxglen LDS Ward in Roy and the caring staff at Legacy/Fairfield Village and her fabulous, caring grandchildren.
