Douglas Arnold Garcia, age 75, passed away on January 4th, 2011. He had many health issues during this last year of his life, but ultimately died in the Intensive Care Unit at McKay-Dee hospital from complications from a stroke. Doug was born October 25, 1935 to Theresa Santos Garcia and Joaquin Raymond Garcia, both Portuguese descendants living in the San Francisco Bay area in a small town called San Leandro. His parents had just survived the Great Depression and through that experience Doug was taught the qualities of not going into debt, paying cash for items, such as cars and to not live a lifestyle you cant afford. This early teaching served him well throughout his life.Doug was and only child and so his cousin, Joe Escobar, who was also an only child, became like a brother to him. They grew up and attended St. Marys Catholic School and at thirteen Doug entered the Bellarmine College Prep Boarding School. This school was run by the Jesuit Priests and was a very strict environment. Doug was taught self-discipline and a good work ethic, although they came at a price. He was on detention continually his first three years of high school. In his class of over 100 students, Doug was only 1 of 8 that made it through all four years and graduated.Doug attended San Jose State University for one year and one day he came home and told his parents they were wasting their money. This was the beginning of Dougs career in sales, and marketing with the Olivetti office machine company. He worked for this company for 30 years where he excelled in sales, being promoted to branch manager, then regional manager and travelled throughout the western half of the United States. Later he ran his own advertising and promotional Item business, called Innovative Impressions.During his travels he met Judy Breinholt Ferre, who he married and they enjoyed a wonderful life for almost 28 years traveling the world together. Their life together on earth was cut short by his death.Doug enjoyed duck and dove hunting. He loved all dogs, but especially Labrador Retrievers and Beagles. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan, in the great years and the lean years. In his later life he enjoyed bowling and joined a bowling team where he met many wonderful friends.He is survived by his wife, Judy and his three children. Rayne (David) Moore, Kaysville, Bowen (Amy) Ferre, West Haven, and Swen Ferre, Roy. He also is survived by six grandchildren; Cynthia Sage Ferre, Max Elton Ferre, Neil Thomas Ferre, Sadee Ferre, Dean Swenson Ferre and Cutler Garcia Moore.Dougs life exemplified dignity and generosity. His love and caring for his family was a constant in their lives and he gave strength and stability to all those he loved. He was one class act and will be missed and remembered with love by all who knew him.Funeral services will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street in Ogden on Saturday, January 8th, beginning with a viewing at 1 pm and the service beginning at 2 pm.
