Dr. John M. Fishburn 88 was born on September 3, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to Glen Mack and Ella Harper Fishburn. He passed away peacefully at home on October 1, 2013. He was one of the youngest soldiers in the 10th Mountain Division, specializing in mountain and winter warfare during World War II. John proudly served with the ski troops in the mountains of Italy and received the bronze star for bravery. John followed in his fathers footsteps and attended podiatry school in Chicago. He practiced with his father until his dads death and then retired at age 78 after treating patients for 52 years. He loved being a doctor and retired reluctantly. Dr. Fishburn came from the old compassionate school of medicine and made many house calls. He loved caring for his patients and was good friends with all of them. Dad was an avid skier and golfer and taught seven children to ski and golf, as well as neighbors and friends. He continued skiing and golfing with family and friends well into his later years. Dad had a great sense of humor and was very funny and full of wit. All the kids thought he was as funny as Johnny Carson. John married Ruth Johnson on December 1, 1970 in Ogden, Utah. They spent 43 wonderful years together. He had five children from a prior marriage, and Ruth brought two daughters to their marriage. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and seven children; Linda (Judd) West, Scott (Jamie) Fishburn, Paul Harper Fishburn, Jane (Jim) Dockstader, Sharree Woods, David (Paige) Fishburn, and Shellee Hastings. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Harper Fishburn, and a sister, June Squires. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday October 7, 2013 at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street in Ogden. A viewing will be held on Sunday October 6, 2013 from 6-8 pm and also one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Interment will be held at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.
