Duane C. Carpenter

Duane C Carpenter passed away peacefully on Nov 12, 2022 at his home.

Duane was born on Sept 2, 1930 in Michigan City, Indiana to E. Claude Carpenter and Ella M. Janke.

Duane lived in many places as a child, living in Sheridan, WY, Salem, OR, Tuscan, AZ, Asheville, NC, Miles City, MT, Baldwin, KS and many other cities too many to name.

He met the love of his life, Patricia Roper of Atchison, KS and moved to Baldwin, KS to attend Baker University where she was enrolled.

His family moved to Salem, Oregon, and he was once again separated from Pat.  It wasn’t long however, and Pat moved to Salem where they were married in Salem, Oregon on March 12, 1950, at the Methodist Church.

Duane worked for Holland Furnace Company and lived in Holland, MI, Twin Falls, ID, and in Ogden off and on over the years.  Miraculously all 4 of his children were born in Ogden.  He determined that Ogden was where he would raise his family and in 1960 joined his father, Claude to start Carpenter Furnace Company.  Duane would take on the reins of the business upon his father’s death.  With his son Dennis, Duane has owned the business for 62 years.

Duane & Pat had 4 children, David (Julie), Dennis (Janet), Michael (Monique) and Julie (Ricky).

He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church where he was active as a Sunday school teacher, Boy Scout Troop leader, Usher and many other posts.

Duane was a member of Unity Lodge #18 since 1955, serving as Worshipful Master in 1981 and Treasurer for 26 years.  He served as Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Utah in 1987, He then served on the Jurisprudence Committee for many years and as Trustee for the Masonic Foundation of Utah.

He was a member of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, faithfully serving the Salt Lake Valley and Ogden Scottish Rite Club.  He was honored for service by being invested with the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 1987 and coroneted a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1993.

He was a member of the Ogden York Rite Bodies and El Kalah Temple.

Duane held membership in the Red Cross of Constantine, KYCH, HRAKTP, Royal Order of Scotland and Royal Order of Jesters.

Duane was devoted to his children’s interests. His involvement with the Boy Scout Troop 20 at First United Methodist Church with his three sons were the highlight of his life. His strong belief in the precepts of the Scout oath were instilled in every Scout he encountered.  He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the organization.  His backpack trips with the Eagle Scouts of First United Methodist church were nothing short of epic adventures into the wilderness of the Uintah Mountains, the Sawtooth Mountain range, and of course, every Scout will remember the trips to Camp Loll in Wyoming.

His service to youth did not stop with his activities with Boy Scouts or church.  He continued his adventures with the International Order of Job’s Daughters.  He was a Past Associate Guardian of Bethel #2 of Ogden and was invested with the Honorary Legion of Honor, Order of DeMolay for his contributions over many years.

Duane is survived by his wife, Patricia, three children, 10 Grandchildren, Chris, Jessica (Jeff Brooks)3, Clark Anthon (Sherry), Simone Carpenter, Gabe Young (Shavon), Jordan Galt, Patrick Galt, Jerred Hunter, Jody Hoener and Janelle Miller (David) and 25 Great Grand Children.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Carpenter, Granddaughter, Melissa Tuttle, and his sister Vivian Clark.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 22 at 2 PM at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St. Ogden, Utah.  Family will greet friends from 1 to 2 PM.  Internment at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park.
