Duane H. Hardy was born June 8, 1931 in the Old Dee Hospital to Julia Mary Garder Hardy and Willis Hardy. Duane attended Mound Fort School from kindergarten through the 10th grade and then graduated from Ogden High School in 1949. While there, he developed a love of music. While playing the trombone, he earned a scholarship to Weber State College. While in college, he graduated with a degree in watch making. During this time he met his sweetheart and future wife, Janet Slater. They were married August 3, 1951 in the Logan Temple. Upon graduation from college, he was called to serve in the United States Army, and was accepted into the Officers Candidate School in Aberdeen, Maryland. After his training, he was assigned as a member of a small advisory team, the President Chiang Kai-sheks National Army in Taiwan. This experience led to a military career in Guided Missiles and Nuclear Weapons. His final military assignment was White Sands Missile Range, where, after 20 years of military service, he retired as a Lt. Colonel. In 1972, he began a career with the US Postal Service as an investigator. It was during this time he was selected and elected to, "Whos Who in America", "Whos Who in Education", and "Whos Who in the World". Duane always felt that Janet was the strength behind him, both in his career and in preparing for his church callings, where he served in many capacities. Among his many callings, he served as Branch and District President in Germany. He served on the High Council for 14 years, and as the Bishop of the Terrace View10th Ward in Washington Terrace. Janet and Duane were the parents of three amazing girls: Rochelle (Michael) Leishman, Leslie (Rich) Woolston, and Kathy (Justin) Davis, who have proven to be great blessings in their lives. In addition they were blessed with eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. The love of Duanes life, Janet, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimers in 2006. It was at this time that Duane began serving as a missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. This was a great blessing in Duanes life, he loved the people he served with and the time he spent there. He was a blessing and greatly loved by those knew him. Duane will be dearly missed.
