North Ogden Duane Chris Jensen, 75, passed away December 19, 2016 in his home. Dad was born July 11, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Duane Alexander Jensen and Adele McFarlane.
Chris served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1960 to 1962. He was part of the first group of 19 year old missionaries the church sent out. He served in many remote areas. He loved the Outback and felt at home there.
Upon Duanes return from his mission, he met and married his sweetheart, Karla Garner of North Ogden. They married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1963. Together they raised four children. Mom and Dad lived in South Ogden, Roy, Hooper, Kernersville, North Carolina and North Ogden. In their later years Mom and Dad loved to travel, visiting Europe, South America, Mexico and Hawaii several times as well as cruising the Western Caribbean.
Chris attended Weber State University and the University of Virginia. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Logistic Management Center at Ft. Lee, Virginia as well as the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio.
Chris was a Contract Negotiator and Contracting Officer for USAF for many years and was a Senior Buyer, Purchasing Manager, Corporate Director of Purchasing and Director of Material Management for a variety of large and mid-size companies. He traveled all over the world, including South America, Scandinavia, Europe, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Pacific Islands, Canada, Mexico and almost every state. He was a computer addict and was known as a guru of systems development. He retired in 2006.
Chris was a gourmet cook and loved to share his recipes from all over the world with family and friends. He was an accomplished pianist, Native American flute player, poet, climber, photographer, outdoorsman and fly fisherman. He particularly loved the desert around Moab and the primitive alpine areas of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana. His family was the most important thing in his life. He loved to go camping with the entire tribe.
Chris was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in a variety of positions. He was most known for being a Gospel Doctrine teacher. He loved sharing the gospel with friends and family. He was a High Priest and served as a teacher, stake athletic director, counselor in a stake mission presidency and temple ordinance worker.
Chris is survived by his eternal companion, Karla; two daughters, Lisa (Cameron) Allen, Amy Jensen; two sons, Matthew and Andrew (Jennifer); grandchildren, Joshua, Camille and Samantha Allen; Alex, Nichole and Melanie Jensen; Jaiden, Sienna (Jason) Chan, Sage and Gunnar Thornock; Max, Oscar and Henry Jensen. Chris loved supporting his grandchildren in many athletic and theatrical events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Allen and his great-granddaughter, Tyler Adele Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Ben Lomond LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 3350 North 1050 East, North Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 10:45 to 11:45 am.
Services under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
Interment at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah.
