Obituary

Duane Boyer Johnston, 82, passed away on June 26, 2012. He was born on September 17, 1929 to Fern and Glen Johnston in Neosho, MO. Duane graduated from Lincoln Country High School in Panaca NV. He married Mary Ahlstrom on June 17, 1956.Duane served in the U.S. Navy until 1954. He spent the majority of his career as a Civil Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. His career moved him from Nevada to Ogden, UT where he lived with his family until his retirement. After he retired, he spent most of his time in Star Valley WY, with his wife Mary up until her death in 1995. He was very active in many social and community events and loved playing cards and golf with his friends in Star Valley. In 2002 Duane was fortunate to be able to re-connect with his long time friend; Jacqueline Cook. They spent the last years traveling, playing Bingo/Slots and being constant companions to each other and split their time between Mesquite NV and Star Valley, WY. Duane was an avid collector of Railroad memorabilia particularly Railroad China. He enjoyed selling/trading and attending Railroad memorabilia shows and loved EBAY. Duane loved a deal, there wasnt a garage sale that he didnt like. Duane also had a huge love of music and played banjo in a band in Star Valley where he loved to play for "The Old People". He had just played with the band last week and enjoyed every minute of it. His 3 grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was so proud of their accomplishments. He was a member of the Golden Spike Masonic Lodge #6 in Ogden, UT and the VFW in Mesquite, NV. He loved spending time with all of his extended family; it was one of his favorite things.Duane is survived by his 3 children; Craig Johnston, Lee Johnston, and Maureen (Christopher) Andrews. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren; Alex Andrews, Michael Johnston and Katherine Johnston, as well as his special companion Jacqueline Cook.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents and son Brent Michael. A gathering to celebrate Duanes life will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, from 10-11 a.m. with a graveside service held at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Ogden Rescue Mission, or the VFW in Mesquite Nevada in Duanes name.
