Dula met Willie Z. Brock while attending the University of Illinois. They later married on May 11, 1955. Willie's job moved them to Michigan. There Dula worked as a substitute teacher and continued her studies at Michigan University in Speech and Hearing.

Willie's job promotion took the family to Victorville, California. Dula initially taught remedial reading. She later taught at Clearfield Job Corp and later spent 12 years teaching at the Weber Basin Job Corp.

After the death of her husband, she gave up all teaching positions at New Zion Baptist Church in Ogden, UT, the IGBC Congress Dean of Christian Education, Youth Director, and the National Baptist USA, Inc, Supervisor of Biblical Languages Studies, to travel around the world. Dula traveled to Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Africa, Greece, Panama Canal, Virgin Islands, Spain, Italy, Columbia, Hawaii, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, England, Netherlands, Ireland and Iceland.
