Obituary

Dyer Henry Morse, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Dyer was born on April 5, 1947, in Olympia, Washington. He and his 3 brothers were adopted and raised by Neal and Freida Steffke in Tacoma, Washington.

After graduation, Dyer joined the United States Air Force. It was during this time that he met and married his sweetheart Darlene, on November 18, 1966, in Ogden, Utah

Dyer worked for 20+ years at Hill AFB in Utah, and 10 years at Nellis AFB in Nevada, where he then retired and began his "second career" with the Department of Homeland Security, TSA division, based in Virginia. Although he was not an actual Air Marshall, he loved sharing the stories he heard with his grandchildren who always knew Grandpa was larger than life.

After complete retirement, Dyer and Darlene loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, bowling with friends and spending time supporting their children and grandchildren.

Some of the grandkids favorite memories were going to Grandpa's house, where he would make them homemade milkshakes and each one got to take a turn picking a movie from his extensive collection. He told each grandchild that the movie they picked was his favorite. The family's favorite joke was to see who could crack into his "Area 51" knowledge - no one ever succeeded in getting any information. Even later in life, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed going to his house to watch wrestling and football, especially the Seattle Seahawks games.

Together, Dyer and Darlene had three children: Debbie (Norm) Zilles, Steve and Jill (Bryan) Tucker. He was a grandfather to 8 wonderful grandchildren and blessed with 16 great-grandchildren.

Although soft spoken, he never met anyone he didn't consider a friend.

Dyer was proceeded in death by his sweetheart Darlene, his parents, two brothers, and one granddaughter.

At Dyer's request, there will be no viewing or formal services held. The family will hold a celebration of life at a future time. We ask that you pass along a smile or a kind word each day in his honor.

We love and miss you, Dad!!
