Edward Gene Simmons's Obituary

Edward Gene Simmons, 59, returned to his Heavenly Father February 21, 2017 peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 26, 1957 to Gerald and Ramona Simmons in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School, Class of 1975. Ed then served an LDS Mission in Houston, Texas. After returning home he wasted no time proposing to his high school sweetheart, Tonya Anderson. They married that same summer on August 24, 1978 in the Ogden LDS Temple. Ed was a faithful employee of Jetway in Ogden where he was employed for 36 years. Ed also worked for Weber County Recreation where he umpired, trained and mentored many employees over the years. He quickly became friends with those he mentored and worked with. Ed was an active member of the LDS Church where he enjoyed his many callings, including his last calling as a gospel principals teacher in the Mound Fort 2nd Ward. Ed currently was a member of the Meadow Brook Ward in Ogden, Utah. In Edwards life he enjoyed playing and coaching many sports. He loved spending his time with his family and friends camping, hunting, fishing, shooting archery and telling BIG FISH STORIES. He also enjoyed umpiring and coaching for his kids and with his kids in various youth sports within the community. He had a strong love for life and always seemed to get his way no matter what the situation. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Edward is survived by his wife, Tonya; his four children, Chauntelle (Clifford) Stapley, Brandon (Jazie) Simmons, Shane (Amanda) Simmons and Blake (Korrina) Simmons; sister, Sue Wistisen; nine grandchildren and many others that loved and called him Dad, Coach or Grandpa Ed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ramona Simmons; and grandparents, Eugene and Anona Oliverson. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Mound Fort LDS Ward Building, 952 Childs Avenue, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 1:00 to 1:45 pm. Arrangements under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
