Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, Elsie Emily Hickman Hipwell, 83, was called home December 12, 2016.
Elsie was born February 27, 1933 to Leonard Ray and Elsie Hurlburt Hickman in Montrose, Colorado.
She married the love of her life, LaVar Jay Hipwell in the Logan LDS Temple on September 28, 1951. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. LaVar and Elsie made their home in West Weber.
Elsie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding various positions.
Elsie retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1991 when she and her husband found the love for genealogy. They spent years searching and documenting their family history.
Elsie had the opportunity to step in and complete the Fremont High School history book.
Elsie and LaVar served 12 years on the Winter Haven Board of Directors. They also loved to square dance and held many offices for square dancing, such as, President of the Ogden Area Square Dance Association and Square Dance Clubs of Utah, Assistant General Chairman and Trustees for the 40th National Square Dance Convention held in Salt Lake City, Utah which was also the year of their 40th graduation from high school and their 40th wedding anniversary.
Elsie was very active in community projects and dedicated five years to the Festival of Trees and supported various food banks. She loved making quilts and crafting with her daughters and granddaughters for family gifts or special donations. Elsie loved riding on the 4-wheeler which she and LaVar did every night for a date night. Her graciousness and kind spirit was welcoming to everyone, she will be missed.
Elsie is survived by her husband, LaVar; brother, Edwin (Cynthia) Hickman of Ogden, Utah; sons, Randall J. (Diana) of Plain City, Utah, Richard V. (Carisa) of West Weber, Utah, Brent A. (Jill) of West Weber, Utah; daughters, Susan Stewart of Brigham City, Utah, Nancy (Wayne) Stephensen of West Weber, Utah, Cynthia (Alan) Franke of Farr West, Utah; 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandson.
A Viewing will be on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the LDS West Weber 1st Ward Building, 4100 West 900 South West Weber, Utah.
Funeral Services will be held December 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at the LDS West Weber 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
Interment at the West Weber Cemetery, 4699 West 1000 North, West Weber, Utah.
