Emilie Davidson Wood Shupe's Obituary

Emilie Shupe passed away peacefully on July 31st after a long and valiant fight. Emilie was born on July 20th 1935 in Ogden, Utah, and was raised by Leonard and Leah Faris Davidson. She graduated from Ogden High School, then attended the University of Idaho on a music scholarship. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Emilie received her B.A. in education and music from Utah State University and taught primarily kindergarten in Ogden for 20 years. She always wanted to work in health care; after retiring from teaching she earned her CNA certificate. Em worked at a care-center for 13 years and for Weber Human Services for 16 years. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the patients and clients and made lifelong friends. Emilie married William Van Wood in 1955 and had one child, Tamara. They later divorced. In 1967 Emilie married her best friend, Lewis E. Shupe. They were happily married for 38 years, enjoying their lives and many years of dancing together. When Em married Lew he also had a daughter named Tamara (Tami). They had fun times raising Tam 1 and Tam 2 together. Emilie was a concert pianist through her college years, and won numerous awards. She continued to play the piano for many organizations throughout her life. She loved ballroom dancing, and was in many competitions with her father as her partner. In her early years, she raced sports cars and won a first place trophy. Emilie was an avid bowler and tennis player. She loved gardening, and would spend all day long in her yard whenever possible. Mom was also a talented artist, and enjoyed knitting and making holiday crafts for family and friends. She loved animals her whole life, had many dogs, cats, and even a pet skunk. Mom recently enjoyed celebrating her 80th birthday surrounded by her family. She loved getting together with her family to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Mom delighted in gift-giving and always found the most unique gifts for everyone. Emilie was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and was on the drill team for over 40 years. She had many good times with her friends there. Emilie was a member of the LDS Church, Legacy Branch, and enjoyed attending services with her granddaughter London. Emilie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lew. She is survived by her daughter Tamara Emilie Wood Meyers (Ron), her step-daughter Tamara Shupe Taylor (Tim); five grandchildren: Aubrey Isaacs (Jerome), Brittany Taylor (Brad), London Moesinger (Greg), Jan Taylor (Krystal), and Hunter Taylor; nine great grandchildren: Arjuna, Denali & Shay Isaacs; Kyle, Luke, Jake & Kate Taylor; Glade & Nicolette Moesinger; and her beloved dog, Flurry. A special thank you to all of the sweet staff and caregivers at Legacy House. A heartfelt thank you to all of Moms private aides, especially Eryn, and all of the nurses and CNAs at IHC Hospice, especially her nurse, Julie. We appreciate everyones exceptional loving care of our dear mother and our family. Thank you to hospice volunteer Marcus and his dog T.C. for the many hours spent visiting Mom. A Viewing will be on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 am.
