Rick passed away at his home in Ogden Canyon, Ogden, Utah after a long battle with cancer in the early morning of October 15, 2014.
Rick was born in Rochester, Minnesota on June 1, 1952 while his father was finishing his residency at the Mayo Clinic. Shortly after he was born the family relocated to Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Wesley Grant Harline.
Rick was a man that lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to ski and was a ski instructor at Snow Basin for a number of years. His interests also included traveling, hiking, camping, golfing and riding his road bike.
He had an infectious personality and you could always tell when he was nearby because of his signature whistling or singing. He made friends easily and more importantly kept those friendships throughout his life. People just loved being around him, he was a gentle soul.
He married Donna Criswell in 1978 and from their union had one daughter, Erica. She was the light of his life. Donna and Rick remained good friends and devoted parents.
Rick met Cathy Rasmussen in 1986. That was the beginning of a long and loving relationship. They were best of friends and partners in travel and decided to marry in October of 2008 to the pleasure of their families.
His children and grandchildren gave him immense pleasure; he adored them all and could spend hours teasing and playing with them. If there was a joke to be told or fun to be had, Rick was involved. Rick saw the value of every soul he came in contact with.
Rick is survived by his wife Cathy Harline, her two sons Tyler Rasmussen (Lindsay) and Ryan Rasmussen (Ashlee) his daughter Erica Van Aarle (Patrick), mother Catherine Rose Harline, brother Wesley (Lee) Grant Harline Jr. (Michelle) and sister Toni Ann Harline (Greg Duffy), grandchildren Kylee, Brayton, Jayden, Ivy Elizabeth, Emery Catherine and Kadin., nieces Catherine (Katie) Leigh and Haley Ann Duffy.
Rick, we love and miss you.
