Eugene H. LewisSouth Ogden Eugene Harold Lewis, 83, died June 17, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born March 12, 1929 in Spokane, Washington to David C. and Lou Ethel Jane Covel Lewis. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was discharged while at Hill Air Force Base in 1949. He then started his Civil Service Career at Hill Air Force Base and retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion Post #139. Gene married Leola Anne Wildermuth on June 18, 1954 in Ogden. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a member of Golden Spike Lodge #6 Free and Accepted Masons and served as Tyler for a number of years. He received his 50 year pin in 2010. He was a member of the Ogden York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite and El Kalah Shrine. He played the musette in the El Kalah Shrine Oriental Band and is a Past President. He was a member of Queen Esther Chapter #4 Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Patron. He served on the Ogden Masonic Temple Board for many years and helped with their maintenance. Gene enjoyed woodworking throughout the years and made many special items for his family. Gene is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Larry) Spackman and Annette (David) Barron; grandchildren Angela, Kenyia, Nicole (Joel), Karissa and Austin; great-grandchildren Tyrus, Kyle, Slade and Kazia. He is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Curry of Washington, Marietta (Paul) Hein of Michigan; one brother, Dave Lewis of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son David, and brother Herbert. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home for the love and care that they provided to Gene over the last twenty months. Thank you also to Applegate Hospice for the wonderful care they provided this past month. Per his request he will be cremated and a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 25, at the First United Methodist Church, 1339 W. 400 N. Marriott-Slatterville with Rev. Alane Currier Griggs officiating. Masonic Services will be conducted by Golden Spike Lodge #6. Family will greet friends at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St from 6 to 8 pm Sunday, June 24 and at the church one hour prior to services on Monday. Cremation under the direction of Leavitts Mortuary.Interment at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the El Kalah Shrine Transportation Fund, 650 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84102 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, Fairfax Road at Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103
