May 21, 1938 – May 30, 2025
Eugene Andrew Ottesen, Age 87, of South Ogden, passed away on May 30, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Gene was born on May 21, 1938, to Eldon A. Ottesen and Ruby Taylor Ottesen, in Salem, Utah. Gene graduated from Ogden High School in 1956 and went on to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northern California Mission from 1958-1960. Gene began employment with the Weber County Courts and then attended Weber State University earning a BS degree in Social Work.
He married Karen Lee Brown on November 15, 1961, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and have been married for 63 years. Gene has always been active in the LDS church and maintained a testimony of the savior Jesus Christ. He has served in Scouting, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Clerk, many bishoprics and various other church callings.
He and Karen raised a family of five children, Randy and (Wendy Bauman), Shauna Lee Ottesen (deceased), Mark and (Sheri Burnett), Julie and (Chris Partridge) and Teresa and (Jason Hamblin). They have fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gene worked in the Weber County Clerk's office and the Ogden District Court for 26 years. He also worked at the Utah State Industrial School. He joined the Utah National Guard, 19th Special Forces Group from March 20, 1961 – May 21, 1998, and retired as a Sergeant Major. He also graduated from the police academy and worked as a Correctional Officer/Agent for 20 years. Gene received multiple military awards and certificates of commendation from the Utah Department of Corrections. He was involved with the success of the Weber County Drug Court program and Asset Collection team. He retired in 2007.
He loved deer and pheasant hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, parachuting, gardening, growing tomatoes and raspberries. He donated funds from scrap metal collection to the Boy Scouts of America and assisted many scouts to be able attend scout camp.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shauna Lee Ottesen, Eldon A. and Ruby T. Ottesen.
Funeral services will be held at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah
Viewing will be Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm and Friday June 6, 2025 from 10 to 11 am
Funeral will be June 6, 2025, at 11:00 am.
