F. Kent Dearden kicked off his boots and hung up his hat for the last time on October 2nd, 2013 from complications after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born on November 22nd, 1949 in Ogden, Utah, the second child to Farrell Amos and Dorothy Hammer Dearden. He graduated from Bonneville High in 1968 and then joined the U.S. Navy, stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, during which time he served afloat, directly supporting the Vietnam Conflict as a Navy Corpsman. He married his first and only love, Rhonda Jean Florence, on June 2nd, 1969 and they recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Together they had seven children. During his life, Kent enjoyed: horses, traveling the world, cooking, ice cream, time with family and grandkids, especially dressing up as Santa Claus during Christmas. He was active in the Eden 1st Ward and held many positions. With his boys he also participated in Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster, coached soccer, and helped with the Utah Youth Rodeo Association. He dedicated over 40 years as the Cath Lab Coordinator for the Heart Institute at McKay Dee Hospital, and thoroughly loved his co-workers and enjoyed getting to know his patients. He and his wife also served an inner city mission in Ogden. He is survived by his wife Rhonda, his mother Dorothy, his sister Cathy Hackworth; brothers, Craig, Paul and Gaylen; children, Ryan, Jeremy (Becky), Zachary (Julie), Stephanie (TJ), Jacob (Julia), Seth (Kayla) and Josh (Kim) and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Farrell, mother-in-law Barbie Florence, brother-in-law Mel Hackworth, and nephew Jarod Dearden. A viewing will be held Monday October 7, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary 836 36th Street in Ogden. Funeral services are on Tuesday at Huntsville Stake Center, 6450 E. 1900 N. in Eden at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing 1 hour prior to services. Our family is so grateful to Dr. Vincent Hansen and staff, Dr. Michael Scheuller and staff and Dr. Leslye Ingersoll and her staff for the comfort, T.L.C. and respect they so kindly gave to Kent. Interment will be in the Eden Cemetery.
