Obituary

Faye Danielson Mellor, age 95, passed away on July 13, 2026, at her home in North Ogden, Utah. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose love, smile, and selfless service touched so many.

Faye was born on August 24, 1930, in the small community of Paradise, Utah. She was the fourth of five children born to David Hirst Danielson and Jennie Howells Danielson. She was a farmer’s daughter and grew up working with her parents on their farm feeding, caring for, and loving the animals. Her favorite animal was her horse Eleanor, of which she later said, “I was the most popular kid in the neighborhood, because I had transportation!”

She attended grades 1-8 in the one-room Paradise Schoolhouse where her Uncle Joe was her teacher. Starting in 9th grade, she attended South Cache High School in Hyrum, graduating in 1948. After completing high school, she moved to Logan, Utah where she enrolled in the Utah State Agricultural College USAC (now Utah State University). She attended for one semester, then quit going to school and was employed at CC Anderson, a dry goods store that “sold everything you needed”. Later she worked at JC Penney.

While in Logan, she met her husband Ashel Mellor at the Institute of Religion at USAC. They were married in the Logan Temple on June 4, 1954. Ashel had just graduated and completed the ROTC Program at USAC. A few months later, Ashel was called to active duty with the United States Air Force. This was the beginning of the next 30 years of countless adventures traveling the world with their 3 children, and living in 8 different states (Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Alabama, Washington, Montana, Arizona, California) as well as Japan and Okinawa. The family lived in Japan and Okinawa for two and a half years during the height of the Vietnam War, and for much of those years, Faye and the children were alone while Ashel was flying B52 bombing missions over Vietnam and Thailand.

Faye didn’t just live in places, she and her family experienced them, taking in the culture and traveling to nearby places.

She once remarked, "In each of the places our family lived, it became a home to us because we joined in with the community. Once the kids got settled in, it was always just home”.

Ashel retired from the Air Force in 1978, and the family returned to Utah where they built a home in North Ogden.

Faye has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held many positions of responsibility. First called as a Primary teacher when she was sixteen years old, Faye was never without a church calling. She served as Relief Society President in four different areas where she lived. One of the highlights of Faye’s service was when she and Ashel served as temple ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for five years. Church members also played a valuable role in all of the family’s moves. No matter where she lived, there was always a connection and friends with ward members.

Faye loved to travel. During their time in Asia, Faye and Ashel were able to visit Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. She also traveled to Europe, the Caribbean, Panama, Canada, and most of the 50 states in America.

Faye’s greatest love has always been her family. She spent countless hours cooking, canning, sewing, and playing for the benefit of her children. Children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews could always enjoy a backyard picnic, fresh food from the garden, and games in the yard. Many nieces and nephews remarked that Aunt Faye has always been their favorite because she was so welcoming to them.

Faye was always known for her smile, laughter, hugs, and fun personality. A perfect day for Faye would include hard work, time with family, fresh tomatoes and raspberries from the backyard garden, a winning Utah Jazz game on TV, and black licorice.

Faye is survived by her children Diann Junkin, Linda Richardson, and Alan Mellor, her grandchildren Christopher Junkin, Melanie Junkin, Cara Richardson, Julie Richardson McGee (Kyle), Ashley Mellor and great-grandson Elijah McGee. She was preceded in death by her husband Ashel, her parents, all of her siblings (Ruth, Lucille, David Carl, Richard Lynn), and her grandson Daniel Junkin.

A viewing and Memorial Service will be held on July 18, 2026 at 250 W Elberta Drive, Pleasant View, Utah at 10:00 am.

Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah.
