Findley Paine Gridley's Obituary

Our husband, father, and grandfather, Findley Paine Gridley passed away at his home Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the age of 87. Born to Jack F. P. Gridley and Anna Jones Gridley in Ogden, Utah on June 1, 1928, he lived and worked in the Ogden area his entire life. He attended Pingree Elementary, Lewis Jr. High, and Ogden High School where he was a Student Body officer. Graduating in 1946, like so many of his classmates at the time, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served with the 504th Parachute Infantry Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division; attaining the rank of Corporal. Findley married Chyrrel Parker on September 24, 1949 in Ogden, Utah. After attending Weber State University, he received his LLD in law from the University of Utah in 1954. He opened a private practice in Ogden working with various associates over the course of his forty-year career. He was a member of the Utah State Bar Association and the Weber County Bar, practicing in both State and Federal courts. He also served as an Assistant Ogden City Attorney, and as a Deputy County Attorney. He was an avid and excellent golfer, and was a two-time member of the Board of Directors at the Ogden Golf and Country Club. He also served as President of the Ogden Noon Exchange Club, and was President of the Wildcat Club. He made it a point to express how fortunate he was to have retained the friendships made in his early years of school and high school. Those associations were dear to him and made a richer and rewarding life! He especially enjoyed his membership in the golfing groups The Twelve Apostles, The Sweet Sixteen, and Wednesday Golf Group. Up to the last two weeks of his life, he enjoyed early morning coffee and conversation with the group he called the Iron Horse Coffee Group. Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Chyrrel Parker Gridley, daughters Terri (Byron) Stephens, Karen Laybourne, and son Jack Findley Paine Gridley II (Nancy), eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Porter, and his parents. He also left behind his beloved schnauzer, Bruder, one of four cherished dogs. Many thanks to IHC Hospice, Renee, his nurse, and all others who made his passing so much easier. You were a blessing. He provided a wonderful life for his family, and was a true and loyal friend. He didnt often say it out loud, but we always knew he loved us! Goodbye, Dad, until we meet you again. Per his wishes there will be no viewing or funeral services. He encouraged donations be made to Primary Childrens Hospital, or the Huntsman Cancer Center.
