Frances Nadeen Wheeler Hackwell, age 94, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at her sons home in Roy, Utah. Nadeen was born December 21, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, to William Sherman Wheeler and Edna A. Wheeler. She attended Ogden School for the Blind and graduated from Washington High School in Ogden. She married Francis (Jimmy) James Hackwell, the love of her life, on February 21, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had five sons, Gary (RaNae), Alan (Tami), Gordon (deceased), Ron (deceased) (Shelly), and Jay (JoAnn). They had been married for 49 years prior to Jimmys passing on April 22, 1995. Nadeen and Jimmy enjoyed raising their boys and playing music with their combo The AdLibs. They played many venues including; The Elks Club, Eagles, Officers Club, Hill Air Force Base, and The Pride Club. Nadeen also sang with the Melodonic Chorus for many years. Nadeen always had a quip or quote for any happenings and was very adept with a slate and stylus (Braille) or typewriter. Some of the many awards and key positions Nadeen received were: George Talmage Award Utah Council of the Blind Outstanding Person- Elks Club Does 4th Flag Attendant Musician Doe of the Year Governors Advisory Committee for Visually Handicapped Chairman for 1 year Participated for 9 years Nominee for Federal Handicapped Person of the Year Ogden Association for the Blind On the Board for many years High School Last Year Vice President Student Body Nadeen was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, two sisters, five brothers, eight grandkids, and 11 grandkids. The family would like to give many thanks to Dr. McIntyer, the wonderful nurses with Hospice; Tiffany and Ashley, and all the other staff that helped provide such great care to Nadeen.
