Fred grew up in Wellsville, Utah, where his love for aviation began at a young age after watching an F-86 fighter jet fly low over town from Hill Air Force Base. From then on, airplanes captured his imagination. He spent countless hours building model airplanes, dreaming of flight, adventure, and the future ahead of him.
His youth was filled with hard work, freedom, and unforgettable stories. Summers were spent cleaning irrigation canals, putting up hay in Woodruff, and enjoying time with friends on the water. He loved telling stories from those years, especially the mischievous adventures that came with growing up in rural Utah.
That passion for aviation became a 40-year career at Hill Air Force Base, where he specialized in aircraft instruments and fire control radar systems for the F-4 Phantom and B-52 bomber. His work took him around the world, but he never lost the spirit of the small-town boy who loved airplanes and adventure.
He could never sit still and was always busy working on something, helping someone or finding a new project to tackle. He loved creating thoughtful things for family and friends that reflected their unique interests. He was authentic, hardworking, and generous, and he will be remembered for his humor, curiosity, straightforwardness and giving heart.
