Fred L. Seppi passed away peacefully July 9, 2015, at age 85. Born April 9, 1930, to Fidele and Mary Seppi, he was a lifelong resident of Ogden, Utah. After graduation from Ogden High School, Fred earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Northwestern University, a Master of Science (MS) in physics from the University of Detroit, an MS in metallurgical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and an MS in materials engineering from the University of Utah. From 19641986 he worked in various capacities at Hill Air Force Base, specializing in metallurgy. From 19861997 he served as a physicist for Williams International in Ogden.
Freds passion for learning was evident in his devotion to classic literature, opera, gardening, and Italian language. In 2006 he began studying creative writing through the University of Utahs Lifelong Learning program and became a published author with several articles appearing in In Piazza through the Italian Cultural Center of Utah and with an essay in the summer 2014 issue of the Utah Historical Quarterly concerning his fathers bar, the National Tavern, and his vivid boyhood memories of historic 25th in Ogden. His memoir, The Boy under the Porch is forthcoming.
He was a beloved member of the Settebello writing group for many years, enlivening the twice-monthly meetings with his vibrant storytelling and the breadth of his knowledge in the arts and sciences. His humor, generosity of spirit, gentle nature, dignity and capacity for devoted friendship endeared him to many, including his several adoring canine companions.
Fred is survived by his niece Carol Krug, nephews Bill Christofferson and Kevin McAuliffe, dear friends Jack Clark and Barbara Oxborrow, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and by sisters Alma Parks, Stella McAuliffe and Erma Christofferson.
